Assam: Artists lead CAA protests by drawing murals on Shilpi Diwas in Jorhat

Several Organisations including All Assam Students Union(AASU), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) have staged protests against the bill. KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi was taken into custody by NIA.

Jorhat: Artists and several other organisations including Teok All Assam Students’ Union (AASU),’ fraternity, and under the umbrella of Jorhat AASU staged a protest against the CAA on Silpi Divas on Friday near Teok Hospital Tiniali.

Signifying strangulation Assam had faced, Artists drew a mural showing a Python gulping Assam. Wall paintings also depicted a peace-loving bunch of people from Assam who began a movement, which witnessed severe bloodshed.

To depict this, a beautiful picture of a stabbed pigeon having its blood dripping from its body is drawn and flowing to a red river was drawn. The drawings were made by Nabajyoti Konwar and students of Teok Jatiya Vidyalaya.

Singers Ashok Bora, Barnali Chutia and Binod Vauqulin sang songs of patriotism and nationalism.
Anti-CAA protests have rocked many parts of Assam. The contentious bill had been opposed by many groups belonging to Assam. A total of five people have been killed as of now in these widespread protests spreading across Assam.

Several Organisations including All Assam Students Union(AASU), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) have staged protests against the bill. KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi was taken into custody by NIA.

According to the CAA, 2019, persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities, who came to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh till December 31, 2014, would be granted Indian citizenship.
