Ayushman Bharat Diwas is celebrated every year across India on April 30. This day revolves around the Ayushman Bharat Yojna launched in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendera Modi.

The yojna refers to a scheme meant for providing health care benefits to major sections of the Indian population who cannot afford the required medical facilities for themselves.

In February 2018, the central government announces announced the creation of 1.5 Lakh Health and wellness centres [HWCs] it has aim to bring health care closer to the member.

Ayushman Bharat is a flagship scheme of Government of India which was launched as recommended by the National Health Policy in 2017 to achieve the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This initiative was taken to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its underlining commitment which is to “leave no one behind.”

Ayushman Bharat Diwas 2022: Importance and significance

This day is of national importance to mark the launch of Ayushman Bharat Yojana which is also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). It was launched by PM Narendra Modi in the year 2018 to provide various benefits with a cover of 5 lakh rupees per family to be given per year.

HWCs covers both maternal and child health services, non-communicable diseases including free essential medicines and diagnostic services and health cover of Rs 5Lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.

Under this scheme the government seeks to attain the health care needs of more than 10.74 crore vulnerable and low income families. The bottom 40% of the overall population of India gets covered as the beneficiaries under the PM-JAY.

PM-JAY will provide cashless and paperless access to services for the beneficiary will be eligible for these benefits.
The objectives of the yojna are to reduce out of pocket hospitalization expenses, fulfillment needs and improve access of identified families to quality inpatient care and day care surgeries.

The yojana beneficiaries will be able to move across borders and access services across the country.

This day is celebrated to make people aware about national health care mission. Ayushman Bharat Diwasis celebrated to achieve twin missions. They are to promote health and wellness to the poor and also to provide insurance benefits to them.

The day is of national importance to mark the launch of Ayushman Bharat Diwas.

Which was first launched on 14th April 2018 in Bijapur of Chhattisgarh.
