Bakrid Bank Holiday 2026: On Tuesday May 26, banks will work as usual in almost all parts of India. Tripura is the only state where branches will stay shut. The closure is for the birth anniversary of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, who is deeply respected in the region. So if someone in Tripura needs to visit a bank that day, they will have to wait for the next working day.

A few states will observe Bakrid on Thursday, May 28 instead. Those include Bihar, Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The date can change by a day because Bakrid follows the Islamic lunar calendar and the exact day depends on moon sighting. That is why bank holidays around this festival can look a little different from one place to another.
May 30 and May 31: One Open and One Shut
Saturday, May 30 is the fifth Saturday of the month. Banks will stay open on that day. RBI rules make only the second and fourth Saturdays official bank holidays, while the fifth Saturday is treated like a normal working day. Then on Sunday, May 31, banks across the country will be closed as part of the weekly holiday.
What still works during the Break?
Even when branches are shut, banking does not stop. UPI, NEFT, RTGS and IMPS continue to work. People can also use ATM cash withdrawal, balance checks, mini statements, internet banking and mobile banking apps. These services keep running on holidays and Sundays, so day-to-day money work can still happen without visiting a branch.
