A day after a series of raids on alleged militant hideouts in the nation, a man blew himself up at a camp for Bangladesh’s elite security forces, wounding two others on Friday, in an apparent botched suicide attack.
A man carrying explosives entered the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) camp near the Dhaka international airport on Friday morning, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan said. The explosives went off after he was confronted by two RAB men. The incident wounded them both but caused no other casualties.
The camp hosts a mix of elite police, army and air force personnel. It has since been cordoned off.
The bomb blasted after the man was challenged by RAB men. However, it was not clear whether the explosion was deliberate, RAB spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan said.
The man’s identity was not known, but that the attack was similar ones executed by Islamist extremists earlier.
