In a shocking turn of events, on Monday, a journalism student and his brother were stabbed by an auto driver after he quarrelled with the student for talking loudly over the phone to his parents in a Bihari dialect.

However, Bandepalya police booked Manjunath Valmiki, a resident of Muneshwaranagar in Hosapalya.

According to reports, Shravan (name changed) was talking to his parents, who live in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, over the phone. He and his 22-year-old younger brother, a B.Sc nursing student, stay at a rented house and Shravan had secured a counsellor’s job. Shravan’s friend, Rajeev, was also at their house.

Valmiki, who lives in the neighbourhood, saw Shravan speaking over the phone. “He stared at me for some time, and when I ignored him, he came up to me,” Shravan told a leading media portal.

He asked Valmiki to go away as he was talking to his father. But the auto driver caught hold of his neck and shoved him. When Shravan resisted, he assaulted him and went away. Shravan tried to inform his landlord, but as he did not show up, he told his brother, who came with Rajeev to question Valmiki.

A furious Valmiki came with a knife and stabbed both Shravan and his brother on the chest. “The stab wound was 15 cm deep and punctured my lung. My brother’s stab wound was 7 cm deep, fracturing a rib,” Shravan said.

Rajeev only had a minor wound. The two brothers were hospitalised for five days, after which their parents asked them to come back. They plan to leave for their hometowns too.
