Bengaluru: Union minister for parliamentary affairs HN Ananth Kumar, who had come down to the city a few days ago after undergoing treatment in London, continues to be in a “precarious” condition according to sources in the BJP.

The chemicals and fertilizers minister is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city for pancreatic cancer.

Earlier there was some speculation that his health is becoming progressively worse but the hospital remained tight-lipped about his health status, while the Union Minister official sources informed that he was stable and was responding to treatment.

Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had visited their ailing cabinet colleague. On Monday, Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited Mr Kumar who has represented the Bengaluru South parliamentary constituency six times since 1996.

There was a buzz that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Kumar on Tuesday or Wednesday, however, there was no official confirmation about this till Monday night.

Speculations are also rife that Ananth Kumar is unlikely to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He has held the Bengaluru South constituency six consecutive terms since 1996.

Kumar refuses to contest the elections, the BJP is likely to field his wife, Tejwaswini. Who runs a charitable trust, Adamya Chetana, is a well-known face in the constituency.

Ananth Kumar recently celebrated his 60th birthday.
