National Sports Day: PM Narendra Modi salutes sportsperson

Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded sportspersons on National Sports Day on Wednesday. He also paid tribute to the Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. India celebrates National Sports Day on 29 August to mark the birthday of legend Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey player who bagged India gold medal three times in Olympics in 1928, 1934 and 1936.

PM Modi in his tweet said that this year has been great for Indian sports as country’s athletes have excelled in various tournaments including in the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. PM also urged people to prioritise sports and fitness-related activities in their live as it will contribute towards a healthier India.

“I salute all those who have represented India in various sporting events. Their hardwork and resolve has led to several milestones. This year has been great for our sporting fraternity, with the Indian athletes excelling in various tournaments including Asian Games 2018 and CWG,” PM writes in his tweet.

“Greetings to all sports enthusiasts on National Sports Day. Tributes to the phenomenal hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand Ji on his birth anniversary. I urge people to give priority to sports and fitness related activities, which will contribute towards a healthier India,” PM Modi wrote in another tweet.
