Bharat Taxi Service Explained: The Indian transportation system reached its first major turning point when Bharat Taxi launched its cooperative-operated ride-hailing service on 5 February 2026. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the service in New Delhi which will revolutionize urban Indian transportation through its alternative taxi-hailing system that removes commission fees and surge pricing from standard cab applications.

What Is Bharat Taxi Service?

Bharat Taxi operates as India’s first cooperative ride-hailing service which provides taxi services through its registered status under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act of 2002 while competing with private taxi services operated by Ola and Uber and Rapido. The cooperative structure enables drivers designated as “Sarathis” to function as co-owners of the platform while they work as drivers.

Bharat Taxi operates its entire business through a zero-commission system because the platform does not deduct any revenue from drivers who receive payments from their customers. The established competitors usually retain between 20 to 30 percent of the passenger fares as their service charge.

The platform provides its customers with pricing that remains constant during peak demand periods. Traditional apps charge higher rates during busy times which include rush hours and rain and festivals because they need to collect more money from commuters. Bharat Taxi guarantees customers fixed fare rates that remain constant even when there are changes in customer demand.

How This Benefits Customers?

The business model of Bharat Taxi provides customers with fare reductions because it operates without any commission charges and without implementing surge pricing. Analysts estimate that this model could make rides up to 30 % cheaper compared with rivals during busy hours since there’s no dynamic fare inflation.

Bharat Taxi uses a cooperative system that enables its passengers to see how their ride costs change because of different pricing methods without facing sudden price increases that confuse most customers. The system helps customers understand their trip costs better which enables them to stop unexpected expenses from happening during payment time.

Because drivers are stakeholders in the cooperative, they have a personal incentive to maintain good service standards. The system enables drivers to keep their work performance high because they receive all trip earnings while their commission rate remains uncharged.

Bharat Taxi integrates its services with existing digital systems through its partnership with DigiLocker which enables driver verification and its system provides dedicated support services through its local police and emergency response system.

The system enables riders to book various vehicles which include two-wheelers, three-wheelers, autos, and other specialized vehicles according to their specific requirements. The organization “Bike Didi” creates programs that enable women to become drivers while providing female passengers with the option to select female drivers.

Bharat Taxi Service Explained: Business Model

The driver-centric business model of Bharat Taxi creates an indirect effect that enhances customer service through its numerous advantages for drivers. The system enables drivers to keep all their earnings from each ride because it replaces high commission fees with a daily access charge of approximately ₹30 which allows drivers to maintain competitive rates.

Importantly, registered Sarathis receive social security benefits like ₹5 lakh personal accident insurance, ₹5 lakh family health cover, and access to retirement savings plans.

At present, Bharat Taxi has expanded its operations to Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, where the company has onboarded more than 300000 drivers who have completed numerous rides during the pilot testing phase.

With strong backing from eight major cooperative organisations including names affiliated with Amul and NABARD, the initiative reflects India’s broader push towards cooperative enterprises under the banner “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation).
