Jahanabad: On the last day of filing candidature for the VII phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019, one of the candidates from Jahanabad Lok Sabha took up a unique ride to the registration office.

Chandrabhusan Sharma, an Independent candidate from the Lok Sabha constituency, travelled to file his candidature on a donkey. When Sharma was asked the reason behind his unique journey, the candidate said, “In the current scenario, all politicians consider people as donkeys and only extract selves work from them, hence to convey this message to people as well as the politicians, I am riding a donkey to file my candidature.”

In Phase VII of the voting for the 17th Lok Sabha, elections will take place in 59 Lok Sabha constituencies across 7 states. Voting for this phase will take place on May 19. While, like all the other phases, counting will take place in May 23.

Along with Jahanabad, seven other constituencies will go for polls in the last phase: Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Pataliputra, Arrah, Buxar, Sasaram, Kurakat.

With a total of 40 parliamentary seats, Bihar is a crucial battlefield in fight for Delhi. The coalition gaining majority of the seats in Bihar increases its prospects to form the next government at the Centre. In 2014, Bihar, along with other parts of North India, was swept by the Narendra Modi wave — which allowed the BJP to register is best-ever electoral performance in the state.
