Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has defended his choice of supporting NDA’s presidential nominee and former Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind. Nitish Kumar said that the decision of supporting Ram Nath Kovind was well-thought-out and ‘Bihar Ki Beti’ Meira Kumar has been selected only to lose.
In Bihar’s capital Patna, Bihar CM said on the presidential nominee of the opposition that she has been fielded only to lose. “I have a lot of respect for Meira Kumar but Bihar’s daughter has been nominated to lose. We have taken independent decisions in the past also; we had supported Pranab da as President when we were in NDA.”
On going against RJD chief Lalu Prasad as he backed Meira Kumar, Nitish urged all to not link this to a political issue and also it should not be made a subject of political conflict. Lalu Prasad had told that he would ask the 66-year-old Bihar CM to rethink his decision.
The two leaders, however, on Friday shared the stage at an Iftar party organized by RJD in Patna.
The Presidential polls would be held on July 17 and the counting will begin on July 20. President Pranab Mukherjee’s term would end on July 24.
