BJP MP Wife to Contest Against Him as Independent Candidate: BJP candidate Ram Shankar Katheria, a sitting MP from Etawah, has filed nomination papers for the Etawah seat amid the ongoing elections.
On April 24, his wife Mridula Katheria also filed nomination papers as an independent candidate from the same seat.
Mridula said, “Nomination papers are filed not to be withdrawn. I will contest the election… This is my birthright.”
The Etawah constituency will go to polls on May 13 in the fourth phase. The nomination deadline is May 25 and the withdrawal deadline is May 29.
Etawah Lok Sabha seat consists of Etawah, Bharthana, Auraiya, Dibiyapur, and Sikandra Assembly segments. It has 18.23 lakh voters.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Mridula filed nomination papers from Etawah but later withdrew them.
In the end, Ram Shankar won the seat for the BJP by over 64,000 votes over SP’s Kamlesh Kumar.
On May 13, the election’s fourth phase will occur in the Etawah constituency.
