The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha member Harinarayan Rajbhar has demanded the formation of a National Commission for Men to highlight the complaints by ‘men suffering at the hands of their wives’.  The BJP MLA Rajbhar has demanded that the statutory body for men should be on the lines of the National Commission for Women.

While speaking with ANI, Rajbhar said, “On the lines of the National Commission for Women, a commission for men should be made; men should also get a platform. In the present time, we see incidents where men suffer at the hands of their wives. There should be no injustice with anyone.”

The 68-year-old Ghosi MP also claimed that he has got wide support from men across the country after he proposed it during the monsoon session in Parliament last month.

“I got over 5000 messages from different parts of the country. Some even from abroad supported this idea and batted for the formation of a statutory body,” said Rajbhar.

Anshul Verma, another BJP MP from Hardoi – UP, made a similar demand saying that laws have been “misused” against men. The parliamentarian said there was a need to amend Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code to prevent its misuse. The provision deals with the cruelty to women, including harassment for dowry, by husbands and relatives of husbands. He claimed that Section 498A has become a tool to harass men.

Citing the wrongful arrests, Verma told that over 27 lakh people were wrongfully arrested between 1998 and 2015 in such cases.
