The Iron Lady of Manipur, Irom Sharmila has claimed that she was offered Rs 36 crore to contest the elections on BJP’s ticket.

She narrated the incident saying that just after she had broken her fast, she met a BJP leader, who offered her Rs 36 crore to fight the elections on BJP’s ticket.

Irom said that the BJP leader told her about the current system of politics, wherein money plays an important role in the elections.

The BJP leader then allegedly offered her the proposal that the center can provide her the needed Rs 36 crore to fight the elections.

However, Irom’s statement has been entirely rubbished by BJP leader Ram Madhav. In a twitter post, Madhav wrote, “Absolute lie. Our entire election campaign in Manipur doesn’t cost that much. She should find respectable ways of fighting elections.”

It may be recalled that Irom formed the People’s Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA) after she ended her 16-year-long fast demanding repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Irom will be contesting from two constituencies, one of which is Khurai, her home constituency and the other Thoubal, the stronghold of current chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
