The Tata Projects Limited on Wednesday won the contract to construct a new Parliament building at a cost of 861.9 crore, officials told news agency PTI. “The Tata Projects Limited has won the contract to build a new Parliament building,” an official said. Larsen and Toubro Ltd submitted a bid of Rs 865 crores, according to news reports.

Leading art and dance scholar Kapila Vatsyayan passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. She was 92-years old. She was a former member of parliament and bureaucrat in India. She served as the founding director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. She also served as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Education.

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has tweeted that he tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently in home isolation.

Meanwhile, Delhi Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) chief Adesh Kumar Gupta has been tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday. Giving the information, he wrote on Twitter, “Last week I had a COVID test after having a mild fever, the report of which was negative, due to continuing unhealthy, I did a corona test again which came back positive. Although I have been quarantined for the past 1 week, yet if someone has come in contact with me, then get yourself tested.”

The ”Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package Insurance Scheme for Health Workers Fighting COVID-19”, which was announced on March 30 this year for 90 days, has been extended for a further period of 90 days.

The scheme provides an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakhs to healthcare providers, including community health workers, who may have to be in direct contact and care of COVID-19 patients and therefore at risk of being infected. It also includes accidental loss of life on account of contracting COVID-19.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has slammed the government for making false promises amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Wayanad MP accused the Centre of “building castles in the air regarding defeating Corona in 21 days, Arogya Setu app protecting people, 20 lakh crores package, nobody entered our borders and the situation is under control.”

India on Wednesday recorded 90,123 new cases of the novel coronavirus, according to the Union health ministry update. The total number of cases now stands at 5,02,0359.

The number of active cases have reached close to the million-mark; it’s currently at 9,95,933, according to the health ministry. The active cases have increased by 5,872 in the last 24 hours. Nearly four million patients have recovered and discharged from hospitals.
