Muzaffar Wani, father of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an interview to Hindustan Times says that Burhan would have died even if he had not joined militancy and prefers to call his son mujahid. He said, “Uska raasta theek tha. Jehad is fine. He was a mujahid, not a terrorist”

Many people have been asking Muzaffar Wani to lead the ‘azadi’ movement but he is happy being ‘Burhan’s father’. He thinks that Burhan gave his life for a cause and now it is for the people to take the movement for azadi forward.

He appealed to the youth not to pelt stones as they are no match in the face of guns (of security forces. He asked Indian government to talk to Kashmiris about their rights. “We have no dushmani (enmity) with India. We want friendly relations with India, but I don’t know why India hates Kashmiris”

Wani’s father slammed Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for not standing with Kashmiris and accused her of running kathputli sarkar (puppet government). He said that his generation feared guns but the new generation doesn’t, “Give them a gun and they’ll disappear into the mountains and train as militants like my son did”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today has emphasised that there must be dialogue to find a solution to the unrest that has roiled Kashmir. He asked all political parties to reach out to the people of the Valley.
