ULFA militants kidnap BJP leader’s son, demand ₹1 crore ransom

Terror outfit United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA has abducted the son of an Assam BJP leader and demanded one crore rupees as ransom. In a video released by ULFA, Kuldeep Maran the son of leader Ratnaswer Moran and nephew of party lawmaker Bolin Chetia, can be seen kneeling down at gunpoint. He is surrounded by five gun wielding men as he says, “I have become very weak and my health has also deteriorated,” he was wearing a green t-shirt and begs his parents, uncle and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to free him.

He was kidnapped by ULFA from Arunachal Pradesh on August 1. This is the first sucgh instance of ULFA releasing a video of any kidnapping.
Kuldeep’s father and uncle were both in the Congress before they switched to the BJP before state elections earlier this year. The BJP’s Sonowal won the election and is now heading the party’s first government in the northeast.
