Bypolls 2022 LIVE update: By-elections are currently being held for one seat in the Lok Sabha and six seats in the Assembly in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. These seats include Rampur, Khatauli, Mainpuri, Sardarshahar, Padampur, Kurhani, and Bhanupratappur. Voting is currently underway.
In Mainpuri, the primary contest is between Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). The SP has fielded Dimple Yadav, the wife of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, against Raghuraj Singh Shakya, a former confidant of Mulayam’s brother Shivpal Singh Yadav, for the seat. While the battle for the Sardarshahar seat in Rajasthan is taking place, the Congress has nominated Ashok Kumar to represent the party there. Kumar is the son of the late Member of Legislative Assembly Bhanwar Lal Sharma, who previously held the same seat until his passing, which resulted in the seat becoming vacant.
In Padampur, Odisha; Kurhani, Bihar; and Bhanupratappur, Chattisgarh, the key contest is between BJP candidate Pradip Purohit and Biju Janta Dal (BJD) candidate Barsha. In addition, JD(U) candidate Manoj Singh Kushwaha and Congress candidate Savitri Mandavi are running against BJP candidate Brahmanand Netam respectively. On December 8 there will be a count of the votes that have been cast.
By 6 o'clock in the evening, the voter turnout in Padampur, Odisha, was 80.5%. There are approximately 4,000 more people waiting in line to vote in 71 of the 319 polling places, so the numbers could rise.
A poll official in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh stated on Monday that the voter turnout for the byelection to the Bhanupratappur Assembly constituency was 64.86 percent. According to him, the number is only an estimate at this point because reports from some polling booths situated in sensitive locations had not yet been received.
As of five o'clock in the afternoon, there was a turnout of 53 percent in the Kurhani segment of Bihar's election.
As of three o'clock in the afternoon, the voter turnout in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in the state of Uttar Pradesh was recorded at 44.13%, while it was 40.20% in the Khatauli and 26.32% in the Rampur assembly segments.
At one o'clock in the afternoon, the voter turnout was recorded to be 37% in Kurhani (Bihar), 46.96% in Padampur (Odisha), 36.68% in Sardashahar (Rajasthan), 19.01% in Rampur (UP), 33.20% in Khatauli, and 50.83% in Bhanupratappur (Chhattisgarh).
At one o'clock in the afternoon, the turnout for the Sardarshahar assembly byelection in Rajasthan was nearly 32.64 percent.
I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the SP will emerge victorious in the Mainpuri by-elections; the general public has come to the conclusion that the BJP is engaging in unfair campaign tactics, and as a result, they will receive the following response once the poll results are announced: Dimple Yadav, SP candidate
The Election Commission of Chhattisgarh reported on Monday that the Bhanupratappur assembly seat had the highest voter turnout of any other seat in the state. Even at 11 in the morning, the voter participation in Rampur was still being recorded as the lowest.
Up until 1 pm, the Padampur assembly byelection saw a turnout of nearly 47% of eligible voters.
An official from the Election Commission stated that 24 percent of 3.11 lakh voters had exercised their franchise within the first four hours of voting for a by-election to the Kurhani assembly seat in Bihar, which is currently taking place on Monday. Polling began at 7 am across 320 booths in the constituency, and the poll percentage stood at 24 per cent until 11 am, he said. Strict security was present throughout the voting process.
