CAA Protest: Jamia Milia Islamia students and locals turns new years eve into 'Azadi night'

On new years eve, Jamia Milia Islamia students and locals were singing patriotic songs and demanding Azadi (freedom) from CAA and NRC at gate number 7. Students and locals gathered at Jamia to celebrate ‘the Azadi Night’ from 9 PM.

Some of the locals were distributing biryani and students were chanting slogans, holding up banners. Various university students continued coming till midnight and they walked about half a kilometre from Julena on a cold night.

To prevent road traffic, students separated a single road with ropes so that traffic on both sides could move, and student volunteers stood in the middle to ensure passage.

There were different groups singing different revolutionary songs like “Hum Dekhenge, Laazim hai ke hum bhi dekhenge’(we will see and definitely we will also see). Young girls and their relatives or friends participated in large numbers.

Students and elders were shouting slogans and shaking legs on every note of the songs in the biting cold. The students also sang national anthem including others at the stroke of midnight.

According to the media reports, when protestors were asked about the CAA or NRC, they said they were not there to enjoy but the issue is very important for the country as it is directly connected to our Constitution and the idea of India.
