California: Gunman, 12 others killed in bar shooting

In a shocking incident, at least 12 people including a sheriff’s sergeant were killed in a shooting at a nightclub close to Los Angeles.

At least 200 people were reportedly inside the Borderline Bar and Grill, which was hosting a university student night, at the time of the attack.

Officials say the suspect, who has not been identified, was found dead inside.

The Los Angeles Times quoted a law enforcement official as saying at least 30 shots had been fired. An unnamed witness told the newspaper that someone ran into the bar around 11:30 pm and started shooting what looked to be a black pistol.

The motive for the shooting has not been confirmed yet.

Ron Helus, a 29-year veteran who was about to retire, was among the dozen killed overnight, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
