Chapter 1606 VA Benefits Rates: The Department of Soldiers Affairs (VA) has many programs to help soldiers, such as the Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR), also known as Chapter 1606.
Chapter 1606 of the VA benefits for soldiers helps them live better by teaching them about careers and giving them new skills. To sign up, you can either go to your local VA Regional Processing Office and fill out the forms or apply online.
The program gives you different levels of benefits based on the type of education or training you get and the amount of classes you take while you are training on the job.

The following are the current scholarship amounts for Chapter 1606:
For establishments of higher learning:
- Enrollment fees for full-time students: $466.00 per month
- Three-quarter enrollment: $349.00 each complete month
- Enrollment for half-time: $233.00 per complete month
- Enrollment less than half-time: $116.50 per full month
For programs leading to non-university degrees:
- Full-time enrollment: $466.00 for each full month
- 3/4-time enrollment: $349.00 for each full month
- 1/2-time enrollment: $233.00 for each full month
- Less than 1/2-time enrollment: $116.50 for each full month
Both programs charge for the entire enrollment month. For those who joined the program after the month began, the VA will reimburse you for the days attended. If the course starts on the 16th, you’ll get paid for the remaining 15 days.

Referring to apprenticeships and on-the-job training:
- Months 1 to 6: $349.50 for each full month
- Months 7 to 12: $256.30 for each full month
- After the first year: $163.10 for each full month
It is important to note that you need to have worked at least 120 hours per month to be eligible for full remuneration.
Regarding online education:
- Whether you take a course online, through correspondence, or in another way that doesn’t require you to drive to school or work, the VA will pay you 55% of the regular rate for each type of institution based on the number of lessons you take each month.
