Opposition created a ruckus after LS Speaker Sumitra Mahajan refused to postpone the Budget following the death of lawmaker E Ahamed.

Despite the death of sitting parliamentarian and former Union Minister E. Ahamed, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is all set to present the 2017-18 Budget in Parliament on Wednesday.

“I would have adjourned the house, but today’s sitting has been fixed by President for presentation of Budget 2017.  Instead the house will be adjourned tomorrow as a mark of respect for E Ahamad ji,” Sumitra Mahajan said.

The Congress party, however, has sought a day’s postponement.

“I think Govt already knew that he had passed away, but they were trying to maybe delay announcement. It’s not March 31, there is a lot of time to present budget. Govt can postpone it,” Congress leader Mallikarjun Khadge said.

“This was an inhuman act,” said Kharge on allegations that E Ahamed ‘s death announcement was delayed. 78-year-old Ahamed passed away in the wee hours on Wednesday at RML Hospital here.

The MP from Kerala’s Mallapuram suffered a cardiac arrest during the President’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament yesterday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of MP and IUML leader E Ahamed and said his efforts for empowerment of the Muslim community will be remembered.

“Saddened by the demise of E Ahamed, a veteran political leader who served the nation with great diligence.  My condolences,” he tweeted.

He said Ahamed devoted significant efforts towards Kerala’s progress and his role in deepening India’s ties with West Asia was notable.

“The continuous efforts of E Ahamed for the empowerment of the Muslim community will be remembered,” Modi added.
