Congress launches campaign #SpeakUpForStudents, demands cancellation of University exams

In and order on July 6, the HRD Ministry had said the exams will have to be conducted by September end.

The Congress Party on Friday launched a campaign for students in which they demanded the cancellation of University exams and fee waiver. The Campaign named #SpeakUpForStudents was launched by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi posted a 53 second long video on his official Twitter handle in which the demands for the campaign were highlighted in favour of University students as the UGC said that the exams will be held in September, but students are not yet ready for the examination and it also demanded the fee waiver of six months for schools and colleges.

In an order on July 6, the HRD Ministry had said the exams will have to be conducted by September end.

The decision by the HRD Ministry came following a nod from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Several Congress leaders and students took to Twitter to join the campaign.

The Assam Congress asked if the UGC wants to spread coronavirus by gathering students in the name of exam.

One of the user said that “Our students are our Future !!
Don’t put our students life at risk .

We Demand
No fee for atleast 6 months
Cancel all exams
Promote based on past performance”

Congress leader from Maharashtra Dheeraj Deshmukh said that conducting exam may endanger the lives of students, parents, teachers and supporting staff.

Deepender S Hooda said that the students are demanding for their rights and exams should be cancelled.

Congress further added that “The student community has undergone immense mental stress over the last few months & the changing guidelines have had a multiplier effect on them. Govt should relieve them of this burden by cancelling exams & waiving fees for 6 months.”

Maharashtra minister Uday Samant said he has informed the Centre that it would not be appropriate to conduct final year exams at Universities by September end.

The West Bengal higher education department has objected to the advisory of the central government. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also said that he will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking cancellation of exams.
