Congress leads in Manipur: Assembly election results 2017 updates

As BJP overthrew Congress from Assam last year, it is expecting another northeastern state of Manipur to come under its vicinity. However, in the ongoing Assembly result trends, Congress and BJP are having a neck to neck battle.

Here are the latest updates:

  • Irom Sharmila polled just 90 votes in Thoubal seat, less than NOTA. Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh leading in Thoubal with 10419 votes.
  • BJP’s Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh wins Konthoujam seat in Manipur.
  • Congress and BJP fighting neck to neck in Manipur were both leading in 9 seats.
  • BJP leading in 8 seats in 60-member Assembly, followed by ruling Congress in 4 seats, as per early trends.
  • The Congress has won three constituencies and is leading in nine, giving it a total of 12. The BJP has won two seats and is leading in eight, giving it a total of 10. The Naga Peoples Front has won one seat and is leading two. The National People’s Party has also won one seat and is leading in three. Other parties and independents are leading in three seats.
  • Chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh winning in Thoubal and is leading in 10 for Congress.
  • Contrary to what is happening in the rest of states, Congress is going strong in Manipur. The party has recorded its eighth seat and as of now, has left BJP behind.
  • Congress has won its fifth seat in the state. In Bishnupur, Congress’ Konthoujam Govindas has won against BJP’s K Krishna Kumar Singh. Govindas has won with a margin of 5278 votes.
