Kerala Youth Congress organised a public slaughtering of an ox in Thayetheru, in Kannur district of Kerala on Saturday, protesting against the centre’s decision to ban sale and purchase of animal slaughter.

The youth Congress workers raised slogans against the Centre and PM Narendra Modi before killing the cow. BJP has strongly condemned the move and has registered a case against those who were involved in the slaughtering.

As per reports, two children had witnessed the slaughter, and the meat was later distributed at the venue.

Rijil Makkutty, leader of the Youth Congress said the slaughtering was done in accordance with all regulations by a butcher and said that no children were present during the killing.

Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi condemned the slaughter said that the party did not support it.

BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan has condemned the slaughter and shared videos of the incident on social media.

Rajasekharan said that the ruling Left and Congress-led opposition are misinterpreting the restrictions.

“This is with deep concern that these acts conducted by these political parties are being seen as they are venting their anger against the BJP. People should be really concerned because these people are indulging in politics with the minds of ‘butchers’ and this is a dangerous trend,” Rajasekheran said in a press statement.

His posts have been widely shared on Twitter and Facebook and generated strong responses from BJP supporters.

The police have registered a case against the district president of Youth Congress.  The Congress has taken action against those who were allegedly involved.

Public slaughter of cattle has been reported from Ernakulam and Kannur districts of Kerala. There have been a number of beef festivals across the state, where the Communist Party of India-Marxist and Congress workers had cooked beef and served it in public.
