Coronavirus: Huge traffic in Bengaluru as vehicles hit roads on day 1 of Lockdown 3.0

Bengaluru – one of the world’s most traffic-congested cities – is having huge traffic on roads on the day one of the third phases of the nationwide lockdown that began today with ‘considerable relaxations.’ The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given relaxations to many during the Lockdown 3.0.

According to officials, there is a sudden increase in the number of vehicles as several private and government offices have been allowed to work during the third phase of the lockdown.

Earlier, the MHA said that there have been tremendous gains and improvement in the situation arising out of coronavirus pandemic and therefore some relaxations are being given.

Under the new guidelines, individuals for all non-essential activities have been permitted and most of the private and commercial establishments are allowed to function by following the strict guidelines of social distancing. Private offices can operate with up to 33 per cent strength as per requirement.

Bengaluru contributes a whopping 60 per cent state gross domestic product (SGDP).

The decision to extend the lockdown in a bid to control the spread of coronavirus has taken a toll on its economic activity across the sectors.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus positive cases in Karnataka has gone up to 606. Five new positive COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday. Out of these, 299 are active cases and 282 discharged. 25 people have died because of coronavirus infection.

The state crossed 600-mark on Saturday when 12 new cases reported. Two casualties were reported on the same day.
