Coronavirus in Bihar: Death toll nears 515, COVID-19 testing crosses 1 lakh mark for the first time

Bihar on Saturday became the eighth state in the country to have recorded more than one lakh coronavirus cases. With the increase in COVID-19 testing in Bihar, the rapid recovery rate is decreasing. The state’s death toll rose to 515 after 15 people succumbed to COVID-19 disease, a bulletin issued by the department said.

In the last 24 hours, 1,13,498 samples have been tested in the state. The recovery rate of the state touched 67.39%.

The total number of active cases in Bihar has reached 32,715. Out of these cases, 4,022 cases were reported from the capital city, Patna. More than 16,000 people have been infected with COVID-19 and 96 people have died so far in Patna district.

Meanwhile, several departments in the state are going to recruit for different vacant posts in the state. Through this, 33,916 teachers will be appointed in higher secondary schools in the state. 4,997 nurses and 4,000 doctors can also be appointed in the health department this year. Furthermore, 4,000 university-college teachers and 250 sportspersons, who have given outstanding performances can also be appointed by the Bihar Government.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced this in his address from Gandhi Maidan on the occasion of 74th Independence Day on Saturday. He said that the advertisement for the appointment of 33,916 teachers in the newly established higher secondary schools in gram panchayats will be issued soon.

The Bihar police have also rolled out vacancies for various posts for which the applications will be applied from Sunday onwards, CM added.

Bihar is prepping for the State Assembly Elections 2020 that are slated for October or November. Several developments are taking place among the political parties. The Lok Janshakti Party may withdraw its support to Nitish-led government after the party accussed senior J(DU) leader Lalan Singh of insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as stated by the sources.

Paswan has called a meeting of party leaders at the party’s Patna office on Saturday over the issue, they said.
