The number of Covid-19 infections in India has surged past 5,000 with the death toll nearing 165, as per figures announced by states, even as lockdown in the country continues to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked people to be ready for a long fight while asking ministers to plan a slow exit from the lockdown. So far, over 74,500 people have died in the pandemic that has affected around 180 nations across the world.
While cases in China have been dwindling since March, there has been a rise in reported cases in the US.
