A CPM leader Omanakuttan was caught on camera collecting money in the flood relief camp in Cherthala South Panchayat. After the video went viral on social media, a complaint was lodged against the CPM leader for collecting money.
Cherthala tahasildar has asked Omanakuttan to return the money however the leader defended himself saying that he collected money to bring electricity to the camp. Now power is taken to the community hall functioning as the camp from the house of an individual.
It has also been alleged that he collected money as rent for the vehicle bringing food items to the camp from civil supplies depot.
“It was wrong from his side to have collected the money. The government is giving money for all expenses,” tahasildar said.
P P Chitharanjan, committee member of Alappuzha district also said the party will take action against him.
