DA Hike Before Diwali 2025: How It Will Affect Central Government Employees Compared to 2024

DA Hike Before Diwali 2025: The central government is ready to give its employees and pensioners a gift this Diwali. A fresh hike in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief is expected, and many workers are waiting for it with hope. The announcement will likely come in mid October, just before the festival. This new hike will cover the time from July to December 2025. It will also be the final increase under the 7th Pay Commission because from January 2026 the 8th Pay Commission will start.

Last year the hike was small, only 2%. It went from 53% to 55% in March 2024. That increase gave a central employee with a basic pay of eighteen thousand rupees around three hundred sixty rupees more every month which added up to about four thousand three hundred rupees in one year. The hike always helps employees manage inflation and high cost of living, as it is calculated with the All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers.

Bigger Hike Expected this Year

The Labour Bureau has released data that shows the index went from 141.4 in June 2024 to 146.5 by July 2025. Because of this rise, experts are saying that this year the DA hike might be around 3 to 4%. That would be almost double compared to last year’s increase. If that happens, employees and pensioners will feel more relief in their pocket at a time when food and household items are expensive.

This hike will be the last revision under the 7th Pay Commission. After this the 8th Pay Commission will take over and make fresh rules for salary, allowances and pensions. This change will reflect the current economic condition of the country. The tradition of giving a hike before festivals like Diwali is always followed, so that employees and their families can spend with comfort and celebrate happily.

8th Pay Commission

The DA increase this year is also linked to the upcoming 8th Pay Commission. The government already announced the new commission in January 2025, but employees are still waiting for the Terms of Reference and a clear notification about its members.

Many employee groups are asking the government to move faster on this. They want the new commission to be ready soon because the 7th Pay Commission is coming to an end.

It is expected that the new pay commission will bring bigger changes in salary structure, new rules for pension and updated allowances. At present there are about 4.7 million central government employees and nearly 6.8 million pensioners waiting for this announcement, reported Financial Express.
