People started arguing after the video showed cash and gold being given during wedding rituals. In the video, these items were called “daan” which means donation, but many people felt it looked like dowry. Arun Panwar lives in Gurugram and comes from Indri village in Sohna. He is getting married to Dr Tithi. The wedding functions happened on January 30, and soon after that, the video spread fast on social media.

In one Instagram reel shared from Panwar’s account, a person is seen reading out a long list of items said to be given as “daan”. The voice says, “Ladke ki chain saade paanch tole ki,” and then goes on to name many gold items. These include a 4 tola bracelet, two gold rings for engagement and marriage, and jewellery for many family members like the groom’s father, uncle, brothers, mother, sister-in-law, and even the bride’s sister. The video also claims that 21 tolas of gold and Rs 71 lakh in cash were given during the ceremony.

After the reel went viral, many people online were upset. They asked if calling dowry a gift or donation makes it acceptable. One user wrote, “Are influencers now promoting dowry?” Another comment said, “We live in a society where all of this is applauded. No wonder we’re so doomed.” Some people also wondered why no police action was taken when such things were shown openly.
