Days after students’ outrage, IP university issues another exam notification

The university has decided to hold the exams for the final year/semester only from July 10, 2020, in view of the prevailing guidelines of the government amid lockdown. While there will be no exams for all intermediate semesters/years and there will be unconditional promotion to next semester/year.

New Delhi: Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, or IP University, Delhi, has issued the exam notification in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic across the country. The university has decided to hold the exams for the final year/semester only from July 10, 2020, in view of the prevailing guidelines of the government amid lockdown. While there will be no exams for all intermediate semesters/years and there will be unconditional promotion to next semester/year.

The notification reads, “Conduct of Pen and Paper exams for final year/semester only : 10th July 2020 (This can be reviewed/amended in view of the prevailing guidelines of the Govt.)

It further reads, “No exams to be conducted for all intermediate semesters/years and their unconditional promotion to next semester/year. The students would be promoted to the next semester on the basis of composite 50% weightage to marks in the previous semester/year only and 50% weightage of marks in internal assessment of the current semester in each subject.”

The university adopts some new steps according to the UGC Guidelines for the final semester/year of 2019-20:

  • Al the physical end term examinations will have to be done in two hours duration.
  • Holding theory exams at first and labs afterward. Lab exams to be held online if physical lab exam not feasible.
  • Exams should be slated on Saturdays and Sundays also if required.
  • Holding two exams per day to minimise the visit of the students, if required.
  • Each examination to have 8 questions covering full course and 3 questions to attempt.
  • The viva voce of projects/dissertation/thesis to be undertaken online if required.
  • The exam centre would be the college where the student is registered.
  • The norms of social distancing, masks, sanitization to be enforced by all colleges/centres in the conduct of exams.

 

Student of intermediate semester/annual, who wants to improve his result in any of the subject/course for the current semester according to the promotion criteria, can choose to take the examination as long as they are held in the next year.

Earlier, the university had decided to conduct exams from June 20 onwards and released a tentative schedule on June 2 and withdrew it the same day. University students had taken to social media to express their anger at the varsity’s decision to hold exams even after knowing the COVID-19 cases have been on the surge across the nation.
