After the Lower House of the Parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the central government has continuously been under the scanner by the allies in the north eastern states and the opposition alike. In the latest, the state of Tripura saw a massive rally taking place under “We oppose Citizenship Amendment Bill”.
Former Congress minister Bibhu Kumari Devi challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh for a debate on the Bill. While addressing the rally, she said, “Tripura was a reserved Territory for the Indigenous people then how come the Central government has decided to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. I challenge the Prime Minister or the Home Minister to have a debate with me on this issue”, as quoted by a regional news portal.
The rally was kicked off at 12 PM on Sunday from Baijal Bari, Khowai.
Earlier owing to the Citizenship Bill, Asom Gana Parishad, the ally of BJP in Assam had decided to cut its ties with the Party.
