Delhi: Man suffering from leprosy immolates self at India Gate

In a horrifying incident, a 20-year-old man immolated himself on Tuesday near India Gate in Delhi. He was suffering from leprosy and was reportedly depressed. He was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital by a PCR van. Accoding to doctors, he has suffered 80 % burns and is in critical condition.

According to a report in the Times of India, the police recovered a suicide note from his bag in which he blamed his neighbour for his depression. The incident occurred at 3:45 pm on Tuesday. The man was standing near the Coast Guard headquarters when he poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire.

When the police reached the spot in a PCR van, he was already on fire. Officers tried to rescue him using blankets and water.

However, he had sustained severe injuries by the time the officers doused the fire. He was kept in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

The youth lived in a colony in Tahirpur. He was upset with the behaviour of a neighbour.
