New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has set up a pod hotel at New Delhi Metro Station, offering resting spaces for passengers in transit. The facility is aimed at travelers who need short-term accommodation while waiting for their connecting trains or flights.

The New Delhi Metro Station, which serves as an interchange for the Yellow Line and Airport Express Line, is one of the busiest transit hubs in the capital. A DMRC official confirmed that the pod hotel is now operational, occupying a portion of the 3,000-square-metre commercial space within the station. The rest of the area has been allocated for other commercial purposes.

This initiative is part of DMRC’s strategy to generate non-fare revenue and reduce dependency on ticket prices. Over the past few years, Delhi Metro has been developing commercial properties at various stations, including retail outlets, food courts, and office spaces. Similar projects have been undertaken at Punjabi Bagh, Malviya Nagar, Azadpur, and Faridabad Sector 20B metro stations.

DMRC has also opened a banquet hall at Noida Electronic City Metro Station, with more developments planned in the coming months. Among them are commercial spaces at Kohat Enclave and Mohan Estate, office and retail spaces at Azadpur, and a dedicated retail zone at Anand Vihar Metro Station.

An official from DMRC explained that such commercial ventures are in line with global metro systems, where non-fare revenue plays a crucial role in financial sustainability. He added that these projects also improve the overall commuter experience by making metro stations more vibrant and passenger-friendly.

The newly opened pod hotel is expected to benefit travelers who often face long waiting hours between journeys. By offering affordable and convenient accommodation, DMRC aims to make metro travel more comfortable while strengthening its financial position through commercial investments.
