Delhi by-poll: Voting underway for Rajouri Garden

Polling for by-election of Srinagar Lok Sabha seat and ten assembly constituencies in eight other states is being held Sunday.

In the latest development, voting has begun in Delhi only by-election at Rajouri Garden constituency to choose its new MLA. Votings began at 8 AM and will continue till 6 PM. The seat was vacated as Jarnail Singh quit as the MLA to contest Punjab Assembly poll against Prakash Singh Badal. Those contesting the election are AAP contestant Harjeet Singh, from Congress Meenakshi Chandela who also belongs to a politically influential family of the area, and BJP-SAD combined veteran Manjinder Singh Sirsa who had won the seat in 2013.

This by-election is important for both BJP and Congress for their hold in the city’s politics while also testing AAP’s popularity despite innumerable allegations from oppositions in recent times. As per a report, along with EVMs, voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPATs) are being used at all the 166 polling stations of the west Delhi constituency. For the by-polls.
