After two days of Diwali, skies continue to be smoky grey on Wednesday morning in Delhi, with the air quality hitting the “severe” mark. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data, major pollutants recorded as PM 2.5 at 500 (severe) and PM 10 at 379 (very poor) in Lodhi Road area.

According to the reports, overall air quality index at about 8 AM in the national capital was 422– worse than Tuesday’s 414. The air quality in Noida is no better with the AQI settling at 270 on Wednesday morning.

Since Monday, the air pollution levels in Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Punjab have been between “poor” to “severe” categories, mainly due to a combination of firecracker emissions, stubble burning and unfavourable meteorological conditions.

On Tuesday, the sun struggled to shine through the haze with the air quality deteriorating and slipping into the “severe” category in the city and the adjoining areas.

Twenty-six of the 37 air quality monitoring stations in the capital recorded AQI’s in the “severe” category on Tuesday.
