Delhi will not host Under-17 Football World Cup for poor air quality

Due to Delhi’s poor air-quality after it celebrated Diwali, it will not host any matches of the Fifa Under-17 World Cup as officials are concerned about the ill effect which the pollution will have on the player’s health. The eight matches are scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium but the last match will be host on the October 16. It will not host the quarter-finals, the semi-finals or the final.

As per Indian Express reports, Jaime Yarza, , Fifa’s head of events, said that the level of pollution in Delhi after Diwali festivities had been taken into account for their decision. Officials have declared on Monday that the rest of the matches will be hosted By Kolkata’s Saltlake Stadium.

The tournament begins with two matches on October 6 – Navi Mumbai and New Delhi will host the opening games. The two semi-finals will be held in Guwahati and Navi Mumbai. The committee had also looked at stadiums in Goa and Kochi.
