Demonetisation chaos: Woman set herself ablaze, dies

A 45 year old daily wage labourer, who set herself ablaze in Aligarh after allegedly failing to exchange old notes, died at a hospital in New Delhi.

Razia was a resident of Shahjamal locality in Delhi Gate area in Aligarh.

According to her family, she immolated herself on the evening of November 20 after “failing to exchange six notes of Rs 500 despite attempting to do so at different branches of banks in the old city area for five days”.

Locals in the Delhi gate area protested over her death. Senior police personnel and district officials were presented at her funeral on Sunday.

Samajwadi Party leader Baba farid assured the protestors that they would take up the matter with the state government.

Razia attempted suicide on November 20 after she failed to exchange old currency notes for three days.
