External affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has been ill and in hospital for 20 days, but she still took time out to urge a member of the public who needs help to “come see her” in the hospital.

The union minister is undergoing treatment for kidney failure in New Delhi’s AIIMS hospital. The woman seeking her help happened to also be working at AIIMS.

Swaraj’s tweet was in response to a request for help from PhD scholar who has trouble getting a visa for Australia.

Geeta Singh, a PhD scholar at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, reportedly tweeted Sunday evening saying that she “had applied for the visa on November 14 for presenting a research paper in Australia on December 7.”

“@SushmaSwaraj I m Phd Scholar in AIIMS. Can you please help me to get my VISA for AUS in order to present a paper? (1/2),” Geeta had tweeted.

Several people on Twitter criticized Geeta Singh for asking an ailing minister for help with an Australian visa. Still, Swaraj appeared to take no offence.

The minister may be in hospital but she’s been keeping track of the news reports and responding as and when he can.

On Saturday, Swaraj, while taking cognizance of the reports about the alleged gang rape of an American tourist in Delhi, said those guilty won’t be spared and asked Delhi Police to register a case.

In series of tweets , she said that she had spoken to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and the Indian Ambassador in the US Navtej Sarna about the matter.

The minister has been continually receiving wishes for her quick recovery and good health since the news of her kidney failure surfaced. Many people also offered their kidneys to her if she needs one.
