Vijay Kumar Mandal of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won Dinara in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections by 8,228 votes, beating Rajendra Prasad Singh of the Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP). With this success, the RJD has been able to extend its influence in the area and thus remain the dominant party in the Buxar parliamentary constituency. In the electoral college, 56.46% of the electorate took part in the voting process. Out of the total number of valid votes cast, Mandal received 59,541 votes.
