Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday asked police officers not to arrest or harass anybody on basis of allegation of radicalisation unless solid proof was available. Singh also added that NGO’s indulged in anti-national activities would not be spared.

This comment was made by Singh on the concluding day of the three-day conference of DGPs and IGPs held in Hyderabad. He directed top police brass to be alert against online attempt to radicalise youth and strengthen cyber security apparatus of states.

Singh also raised the issue of crackdown on NGOs. He said that no bonafide NGO doing public service would have to face government scrutiny.

In a reference to the ban on Islamic preacher Zakir Naik’s NGO, he said “but those NGOs which are allegedly trying to hamper development works or indugle in anti-national activities would not be spared.”

Over the last two years, FCRA license of around 20,000 NGOs including Green Peace India were cancelled for various alleged irregularities.
