Delhi Assembly Election 2020: Election officer deployed at polling booth dies

New Delhi: Two elderly sisters were found murdered on Thursday inside their flat in west Delhi, police said.

The police suspect it to be a robbery-cum-murder case as the flat was ransacked. “The two were found lying on the floor. One was attacked with a sharp weapon on the head, while other was strangled to death,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Seju P Kuruvilla.

The two have been identified as Usha Pathak,75, and her younger sister, Asha Pathak,70. Police say they were found murdered around 3.30 p.m inside their flat located at ‘Anandvan society’ in Paschim Vihar area.

“A woman in their neighbourhood informed the local police that when she did not find the two sisters after the morning walk, she went to their house to check,” said Kuruvilla. “That woman found the two sisters dead,” she said.

“According to preliminary investigation, it appears to be a robbery case because the accused seem to have made a friendly entry into the flat,” said Kurvilla.

“Usha Pathak was a retired music teacher from a college in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur. Asha Pathak retired as a librarian from Krishi Bhawan in Delhi,” he added.

“They were unmarried and had been staying in their second floor flat for the last 30 years. There are over a hundred flats in the society,” the officer said, adding the CCTV footage of the area is being reviewed to establish the identity of the accused.
