On Thursday, the Supreme Court struck down the constitutional validity of the electoral bonds scheme, stating that the anonymity clause of the scheme introduced by the BJP-led Centre in 2017 violated voters’ right to information. As part of its interim order in 2019, the Supreme Court directed the State Bank of India to provide the Election Commission of India with all information pertaining to donors. The EC was also requested to publish the data provided by the state-run lender within a week of receiving it.
