Ermias Joseph Asghedom, better known by his stage name Nipsey Hussle, was born on August 15, 1985 in South Los Angeles, where he spent his formative years. Samual and Samantha Asghedom, his brother and sister, spent the majority of his childhood in the Crenshaw neighbourhood south of Los Angeles. Shortly after dropping out of school, he fled home to join the gang Rollin’ 60’s Neighbourhood Crips, but later in life he focused on separating himself from and avoiding that world. In 2004, his father took him and his siblings on a three-month journey to Eritrea, where he developed a passion for entrepreneurship and activism.

In December 2005, he independently released his first mixtape, “Slauson Boy Volume 1,” and began to achieve moderate success. In 2009, he collaborated with Drake on the tune ‘Killer’ and with Snoop Dog and Problem on ‘Upside Down.’ In 2010, “XXL Magazine” recognised Nipsey Hussle by including him in their Annual Freshman Top Ten list of ten up-and-coming hip-hop artists to observe.
