Etawah: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate and sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from Etawah Lok Sabha constituency, Ram Shankar Katheria, on Wednesday, April 10, allegedly got into a scuffle with a Sub-Inspector. A case against Ram Shankar and 40 others has been registered.

According to police, the incident took place when the police Inspector attemped to prevent BJP workers from holding a rally without permission at Parthara in the Bhareh area of the district. The BJP candidate and his supporters then beat the sub-Inspector black and blue.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rambadan Singh said Mr Katheria was addressing the BJP rally without taking permission, following which the Bhareh police station sent sub-Inspector Geetam Pal at the location to stop it, who was allegedly thrashed by the Katheria BJP supporters.

According to Geetam, BJP’s Etawah candidate was holding election rally on Wednesday, April 10, and had a convoy of 50 vehicles with him. Since, the elections were slated to take place on April 11, the campaigning should have ended 2 days before. The inspector said, he went to stop the election rally where Ram Shankar Katheria misbehaved with him and when the inspector started to record the incident on his phone, Katheria’s supporters took away his phone and started beating him.

Reportedly, the BJP candidate Ram Shankar denied beating the inspector and said that he has been accused wrongly.

Apparently, Katheria’s wife is contesting against him as an independent candidate.
