Chennai, June 19 (IANS) European gelato and ice cream machine manufacturer Valmar has entered the Indian market for its equipment, tying up with city-based Swedinox Impex, said officials.
“Headquartered in Slovenia, Valmar is a 11 million euro turnover company making about 1,000 machines per year. The company has tied up with Swedinox Impex for selling gelato making machines,” Alberto, Asia Pacific Business Development Director at Valmar, told reporters here on Wednesday.
Originally from Italy, gelato contains less air and fat and more flavour as compared to ice cream and other frozen desserts and has more richness.
“The Indian ice cream and frozen dessert market is worth about Rs 140 billion and it is growing. The market is expected to touch Rs 238 billion by 2023. Gelato is a new segment. It is freshly made and does not have artificial flavours,” said Adbul Rahim, Chairman, Swedinox.
“To make ice cream one uses powders and aromas whereas gelato is made with fresh ingredients,” he added.
The Indian company plans to target parlours, hotels, restaurants and boutique outlets for the gelato making machines.
“The machine prices range between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. We will also provide the recipe for the small outlets. As per the economics, an owner can recover his investment in a year by selling 25 scoops per day,” said Abdullah Rafiq, Director, Swedinox.
According Alberto, Valmar makes machines for industrial customers as well as designers or small outlets.
