The Dudhsagar Waterfalls are situated on the eastern side of the state in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary among the Western Ghats in the direction of the village of Collem or Kulem. Dudhsagar Waterfall, which forms the border between the states of Karnataka and Goa and is situated in the midst of a dense forest, is yet another fascinating fact you may not be aware of. The falls are one of the highest waterfalls in India, with a height of 1020 feet and a width of approximately 100 feet. You can walk to the bottom of the waterfall to see the entire waterfall from top to bottom. This is where the Dudhsagar River begins, and if the current is not too strong, you can even enjoy a leisurely swim here. Therefore, you must access a gate labelled Dudhsagar Waterfall to reach this vantage point. After this viewpoint, you must traverse several water streams to reach the base of the waterfalls. And regardless of energy or time, you can enjoy both perspectives by crossing the bridge or walking to the base if you are pursuing natural beauty.
Myth Concerning Waterfalls
Obviously, India is surrounded by myth, and the Dudhsagar Waterfalls are no exception. An ancient legend revolves around the appellation of the falls. According to legend, a princess who was the daughter of the King of the Ghats once resided. This stunning princess was as modest as she was beautiful and steadfast in heart, mind, and body purity. She used to take a daily bath in the lake near the castle of her father. After her ablution, she and her handmaidens would gather at the lake’s edge while the Princess drank a gallon of milk. However, as the princess sipped her milk one day, a youthful and handsome prince was making his way through the forest. Upon hearing the chatter and merriment of women, he stopped to investigate. In the meantime, the Princess felt ashamed of her bathing suit, so her maids emptied milk in a cascade in front of her, creating a curtain behind which she could change. The Dudhsagar falls are named after this milky waterfall, which protected the princess’s modesty.
