Almost a month after arresting MLA Pradeep Yadav, Jharkhand Police is all set to arrest Congress MLA Nirmala Devi. A magistrate court issued a non-bailable warrant against the Barkagaon MLA. Her husband, Yogendra Saw, the former Congress MLA from this seat, is already in jail.Opposition has termed the move as a draconian measure to silence protests and criticisms. Nirmala Devi and her husband, former MLA Yogender Saw, have been leading protests against land acquisition for coal mining in Barkagaon. They allege due laws were not followed and land was grabbed from tribals without proper compensation and guidelines for resettlement, and rehabilitation were overlooked.

Notably, Yogender Saw hit limelight when he released a sting where Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das is seen offering respite to Saw in lieu of Nirmala Devi cross voting for BJP in Rajya Sabha elections last year.Earlier in April, police arrested JVM MLA Pradeep Yadav, who was leading a similar agitation against Adani Power in Godda.
“All this will not scare us. We will continue fighting for rampant land grab by state government. All opposition will come together for a joint show of strength on May 18, where we will carry out state wide chakka jam,” said JVM president Babulal Marandi.
