Social media giant Facebook plans to earn money from all the live videos it allows to share via its network. Facebook Live videos are soon to have interruptions by 20-second ads.  According to a report on Thursday, Facebook would soon start putting ads in the middle of publishers’ videos, much like TV commercials or YouTube ads.

The test-run of this new update will be done with a small group of US publishers for now. The ad revenue would be split between these publishers and Facebook, with the latter getting 45 per cent of the share, said a report on Business standard. As a policy, ads must have a gap of two minutes. The ads will appear in the middle of a live stream cannot be stopped before it plays for minimum 20 seconds.

“This is big news for publishers, many of whom have trouble making money from videos they share to Facebook,” the report said.

“Publishers need to be live for at least four minutes before they can take an ad break, and the stream must have at least 300 concurrent viewers. Each ad will last 20 seconds,” a Facebook spokesperson was quoted as saying.
