As more and more politicians take to social media, the initially hesitant Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is not shying away anymore. He officially joined social media platform, Facebook and photo-sharing application, Instagram on Thursday.
The 46-year old Congress MP already had a Twitter handle by the name of ‘Office of RG’, which was managed by his office. He is followed by over 2 million followers on Twitter. Contrary to it, his new accounts on Facebook and Instagram are in his name without the prefix of the ‘office’ making people wonder whether it will be really him or will the office be handling them. If the latter, then the dropping of the prefix is an interesting development in his social media strategy.
Notably, his Instagram account shows 540 posts and a following of 65.4k followers. On Facebook, 1,307,251 people have liked his official page.
Indian leaders and politicians enjoy huge popularity on social media, as they find it easy and convenient to reach out to the people of the country.
